Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

At Stamford Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, we take expert specialized care of our very smallest patients. Our NICU is a Level III medical facility (able to care for premature babies as young as 25 weeks), providing warm, compassionate, family-centered care not only to the babies but also their families.

Our NICU is staffed by experienced neonatologists, a dedicated nursing staff, and numerous pediatric sub-specialists, all working as a team to provide the highest level of care to newborn, premature infants who require special attention. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit also offers mentoring for parents at this vulnerable time, sponsored by the Tiny Miracles Foundation, which offers information, support and respite for visiting families, along with a Resource Room loaded with informative and supportive information. Prior to discharge, mom and dad are invited to spend a night in one of our two comfortable transition rooms, to help ease the transition from NICU to home.

The NICU is located in Stamford Hospital's elegant Whittingham Specialty Care Pavilion, a 120,000-square foot facility built in 2001, where our NICU staff works closely with the doctors and nurses of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, to provide comprehensive and coordinated care to high-risk mothers and their infants.

Remember, our staff is here to help. If you need more information about the NICU or premature birth, or would like to speak with Kathy Livoisi, our Director of Maternal/Child Health directly, please call 203-276-7179.
