The Women's Breast Center offers women in our area the most advanced technology to provide the most accurate screening and diagnosis.We consider our investment in technology an investment in the health of the women we serve.
The American College of Radiology has designated our screening facility as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence--one of five out of the state's 133 breast imaging centers.
Diagnostic and Imaging Service Offering
- Breast MRI with the highest resolution images available in Fairfield County. Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging can detect breast cancers that are not visible with other technologies. Patients who are considered high risk, including those who have been previously diagnosed with breast cancer, may benefit from a breast MRI.
- Digital Mammography: A digital mammogram is faster and uses less radiation than standard film mammogram. The images are seen on a high-resolution monitor, which allows the radiologist to see in greater detail.
- Digital mammography that can image large-breasted women.
- Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD): Our radiologists use CAD to second-read mammograms. The technologist uses a computer to scan mammograms for abnormalities. According to recent research, this technique, when used with screening ultrasound, may improve early detection of breast cancer.
- Screening and Diagnostic Ultrasound: Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to record images on a special screen. Ultrasound is often used in conjunction with the mammogram for diagnostic exams. Screening ultrasound is often recommended for patients with very dense breast tissue.
- Stereotactic Core Needle Biopsy: Performed by one of our experienced radiologists, this exam is done under mammographic guidance. Using digital technology, the area of mammographic concern is located and biopsied with a Mammotome® vacuum-assisted needle. This allows for an accurate diagnosis using minimally invasive technology.
- Bone densitometry exams that can be scheduled at the same time as your mammogram for your convenience
